The greatest difficulty in prayer has been the understanding that my communication to God is different than God's communication back to me. I want things to be simple..."Good morning God, here is today's shopping list of wants."--"Michael this is God (the Genie), I'll grant you...Obviously, this isn't how it works...but the inner child wishes it were so simple.

I start the morning early, in quiet, with Morning Prayer and spend a great deal of time with a still mind. I look over the lake, watch the sun rise, and meditate and listen.

I know that my friends pray for me as a I journey through this new life in Chicago. I sense the community of them and feel their love and support.

One could write a book on the subject of praying for others. Suffice it to say, I have seen, first hand, the effect of praying for others, especially the sick and dying. I've seen the actions of others driven by their prayers for the poor and homeless. I've seen hearts illumined after the asking for guidance.
